Provide thought leadership on challenging data science problems that aim to make Groupon's marketplace more efficient. Example challenges include: Closing the right merchants, ensuring merchant success, predicting customer CLTV, predicting merchant performance, developing ensemble models, etc.
Flood the room with elegant data science solutions to business problems and best practices in machine learning.
Work closely with product and engineering teams to form good hypotheses on how to improve the business. Design, execute and measure experiments to test these hypotheses.
Interpret and communicate insights and findings from analyses and experiments to product, service, and business managers.
PhD degree in statistics, applied mathematics or related quantitative field.
4+ years of experience as a data scientist or a related role.
Experience with widely used machine learning algorithms like linear and logistic regression, decision trees, SVM, KNN, k-means, random forest, dimensionality reduction, etc.
Proven ability to architect elegant solutions that solve problems holistically. Deep understanding of the pros and cons of alternative algorithms in terms of the assumptions made, execution requirements, etc.
Experience defining and analyzing multivariate tests
Expert in R with experience in machine learning related packages
Expert in SQL with experience in data warehouse technologies like Teradata
Experience with big data technologies like Spark and Hive is a plus
Strong coding skills in Python and Java/C++ is a plus
