Groupon is looking for a talented, highly motivated individual to join its accounting team as a staff accountant responsible for various financial and operational accounting aspects of the Groupon Goods Global GmbH European business. This is a “hands on” accounting role with interaction with different departments (operations, logistics, finance, corporate accounting, tax, and treasury) across the European region of Goods.
Core Responsibilities of Accounting Team
The Groupon Goods Global accounting team is responsible for the monthly closing and review of the financial statements related to Goods Europe. To complete this, the Goods accounting team works closely with operations to improve reporting processes and data. The Goods accounting team also works with our external auditors to ensure audit requests are provided in a timely manner. The Goods accounting team also partners with the internal audit department to ensure the internal controls over the monthly close process are documented appropriately and testing is completed in a timely manner.
Expected Core Responsibilities of Staff Accountant
Responsible for month end close processes surrounding Groupon Goods Global, including:
Reconciliation of Inventory, including:
Quarterly physical inventory procedures
Monthly & quarterly inventory reports received from third party warehouses as well as Groupon owned fulfillment center
Weekly rollforwards of inventory, by location, including receipts, fulfillments, adjustments, etc.
Examination and booking of entries for Groupon Goods and external sales partners related activity
Work with various project managers, development personnel, and finance personnel in launching a variety of initiatives surrounding the further development of Groupon Goods, including automation and globalization.
Reconciliation of VAT accruals and payments
Booking of Liquidation Revenue for sale of Goods as well as any other inventory related receivables as they arise
Working with a variety of other departments within the Company, including the Buying, Legal, Finance, Tax, and Inventory functions to improve data flows, establish processes (chargebacks, etc.), provide input into dashboards, etc.
Assist management with Sarbanes-Oxley procedures, tax, and audit requests surrounding Groupon Goods
Respond to a myriad of internal daily questions
Specific projects and other ad hoc assignments as required.
Sound understanding of US GAAP and general ledger / month-end processes.
MS-Office proficiency, specifically intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Experience with accounting software, preferably WMS system experience.
Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
Experience with VAT and I/C reconciliations and processes
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
1-2 years accounting experience; Big 8 or Manufacturing/Retail industry experience a plus.
