Groupon, Inc. is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA.

Core Responsibilities:
Work with other senior members of the engineering staff to provide architectural guidance to Groupon engineers;
Write software & tooling in various languages (C++, JavaScript, Java, Groovy, Ruby);
Represent Groupon's interest as a member of the node.js diagnostics working group and towards the ECMA TC39 technical committee;
Support and mentor engineers at Groupon on all levels and across various fields of expertise;
Maintain Groupon's Open Source review process;
Analyze and advise on the security, reliability, & performance characteristics of distributed systems in a SOA;
Evaluate & participate in the development of formal language specifications, specifically around ECMA-262 (ECMAScript);
Write code with manual memory- and resource management in a lower-level language like Objective-C or C++;
Apply and teach functional programming concepts like immutable data structures, higher kinded types, and functional composition.

REQUIREMENTS:
4 years of related experience.

Experience must have included any level of experience in:
1) Analyze and advise on the security, reliability, & performance characteristics of distributed systems in a SOA
2) Evaluate & participate in the development of formal language specifications, specifically around ECMA-262 (ECMAScript)
3) Write code with manual memory- and resource management in a lower-level language like Objective-C or C++
4) Apply and teach functional programming concepts like immutable data structures, higher kinded types, and functional composition
