We are a dynamic and exciting company with an excellent legal team, and we are looking for a Senior Counsel for EMEA focused on Labor & Employment, to join that team. This position will be based at our Dublin, Ireland operation, reporting in to the V.P. Deputy General Counsel for EMEA. The person hired for this role will be in a leadership position within our department and will be responsible for advising on all labor and employment matters across the region.
7+ years’ experience handling employment-related legal issues (including compliance issues) and litigation and providing advice concerning same within the EMEA region.
Experience working with, or advising clients with respect to, Works Councils and/or Unions within EMEA.
Experience working with, or advising, multi-national corporations.
Excellent communication skills and an outstanding ability to explain legal matters.
Ability to think and act quickly and decisively and to advise and assist our growing business with sound and practical legal advice.
Must work well with internal clients and with other members of the legal team.
Must have a positive outlook.
A good sense of humor is a bonus.
Oversee all employment law matters across the region, working with HR, other business partners, and the legal team across the region and around the world.
Advise on legal rights and duties of local Works Councils and Unions, working with HR and local management in negotiating works agreements and other matters with them.
Provide training, counseling and other support, as needed, for HR and leadership within the company throughout EMEA.
Advise on, and often lead, internal compliance investigations, while reporting to, and working with, the compliance team.
Work closely with the US legal team on issues that affect employment and/or compliance matters within EMEA.
Provide employment law and compliance training, in conjunction with HR, across the region.
Assist the Legal Director for litigation with respect to any labor or employment litigation.
Ensure proper and current employment contracts and policies are in place and properly maintained.
Ensure the company complies with all of its obligations as an employer.
Work to reduce overall risks and avoid negative outcomes.
Manage outside counsel and oversee the budget related to employment advice in EMEA.
Provide timely and accurate reporting to the VP, Deputy General Counsel for EMEA, and provide timely. responses and advice to our internal clients.
Review and implement all company policies and recommend and execute on any improvements/updates as may be needed from time to time.
If a junior lawyer is hired within this function, the Senior Counsel must be willing and able to provide proper management and oversight as the direct supervisor for that junior position.
Be willing to travel to Groupon offices across EMEA and to the US.
Experience with e-commerce and online sales.
In-house experience strongly preferred.
Experience with U.S., publicly-traded companies.
