VPS is seeking to fill an open position for a CA-licensed Professional Electrical Engineer immediately. The position requires mission critical power system design and operation experience related to data centers. Activities will include collaboration with internal VPS team members, partners, outside consultants, and equipment manufacturers.
The position will be a part of a cohesive team which forms the Customer Solutions and Service group. Group members include a Hardware Product Manager/Electrical Engineer, Network Engineer, and Lab manager for product testing and development.
Contributing to schematics, layout drawings, and maintaining revision control
Reviewing and creating specification designs for power panels and equipment racks used for product deployments
Designing test rack power systems for product development, validation testing, and demonstrations
Ensuring proper integration of factory and field testing of units is achieved
Supporting the manufacturing teams to create comprehensive factory acceptance test criteria
Reviewing all technical aspects of next generation hardware solutions
Electrical design, functional, performance specification development, and reviews
Conducting analyses and audits of electrical systems
Supporting the validation of hardware specifications
Documenting technical power architecture at all levels of design
Documenting all aspects of hardware solutions
Ensuring familiarity with power electronics converter design and testing
Contributing to writing the control firmware in embedded systems
Contributing to unit interface design and specifications
Developing cases for manufacturing trade-offs and product selection
Project planning
Application engineering for project support
Product support for installed equipment
Participation in Root-Cause-Analysis (RCA)
Collaboration in creation of data center commissioning scripts and testing plans for new and retrofitted data centers
Collaboration in development and review of design standards, specs, and method of procedures (MOP)
Collaboration in creation of evaluation of RFPs, ROMs and SOWs
Professional Engineer, licensed in California, in good standing
NCEES Records in good standing or a work in progress
BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering with approximately 5 years’ experience in power electronic design and product support in mission critical data center/computer room environments
Demonstrate proficiency in:
Electrical system design and construction requirements for electrical projects from concept through commissioning
AutoCAD (version 2005 or better), MS Word, and MS Excel, as well as design and calculation software
Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and design documents
Reading and writing specifications
Estimating costs and time
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of:
utility systems, service entrance, and distribution switchgear, emergency power systems and their related transfer systems, power distribution, and grounding
Power protection and distribution configurations across all levels of standard designs using redundant operation, concurrently maintainable, and fault tolerant operation
Familiar with:
Lighting, fire detection and alarm systems
Current and emerging industry standards, vendors, and technologies as they relate to the electrical infrastructure industry
Mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, etc.)
Applicable codes and standards
Other Abilities:
Works well with customers, engineers, architects, contractors, and consultants
Coordination and Record keeping skills
Verbal and writing skills
Work in the United States and travel to projects in Asia, Middle East, Europe and other regions as needed

• Professional Engineer California Licensed (other state licenses are acceptable)
