Web Data Analyst

Job Description / Skills Required

Web data analytics is a key element in Groupon’s performance and as a team we develop new data requirements, maintain automated dashboards, and analyze marketing and web performance to help improve merchandising strategies and customer insights to make Groupon engaging for both merchants and consumers.

This position is based in our Chicago office and you will be part of our Global Reporting team with a specific focus on Web and campaign metrics. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding, measuring, testing, and reporting on the fundamental success factors that drive campaign success.

This analyst will be required to understand and interpret data structures and business performance at various levels of detail in order to generate objective, data-driven, and actionable short and long-term recommendations for leadership. The right candidate will possess a strong combination of analytical prowess, technical aptitude, and business savvy.


Translate traffic data to actionable insights for improving key performance metrics (Click through rate, Bounce rate, conversion etc.)
Research, optimize, review and provide reporting with a detailed analysis of campaign results
Conduct as-needed analyses to explain business trends and customer behavior
Daily management and tracking of multiple digital marketing campaigns across web, mobile, and email
Stay on top of industry trends and best practices
Present findings and recommendations to senior-level stakeholders
Leverage web, purchases, and contacts data to analyze consumer pre and post purchase behavior
Write efficient code to access data in Hadoop and Teradata to produce reports
Build visualizations in Tableau that enable self-serve access to key metrics and insights
Partner with merchandising, marketing, and creative business team members to design statistical tests that measure the effectiveness of email/web marketing campaigns and innovations
Distill learnings from experiments and establish action plan

2+ years in a data analytics, reporting, data science or business intelligence role
1-3 years of experience working with email/web marketing or web analytics platforms (ExactTarget, Eloqua, Marketo, Google Analytics, CoreMetrics, Adobe Analytics, etc.)
1-3 years of experience with AB Testing tools
1-3 years of experience using statistical packages and/or data visualization tools (R, SAS, Tableau, Qliview, Qlik Sense, etc.)
At least 3+ years of SQL experience
Experience extracting data and structuring for analysis using Apache Hive
Knowledge of Tag Management tools (Adobe DTM, Google Tag Manager etc.
