UX Software Writer (Contract Role)

Job Description / Skills Required

About GoPro

GoPro, Inc. is transforming the way people capture and share their lives. What began as an idea to help athletes self-document themselves engage in sport, GoPro has become a mobile storytelling solution that helps the world share itself through immersive content.

GoPro offers a fun and fast-paced work environment with passionate and motivated people who have a drive to learn, innovate and succeed.

We’re looking for a technical-leaning writer who wants to make it easier for millions of users to tell their stories. The UX Writer will shape the voice of GoPro’s mobile and desktop apps by contributing to style guidelines and writing exceptional user interface copy, help text and other documentation.

You’ll join GoPro’s hard-working, ultra-collaborative Software & Services UX Design Team and work side-by-side with user experience designers, visual designers, product managers and engineers. This is a great role for a fastidious technical writer with a strong grasp of voice, devotion to brand and understanding of how to use words to help users accomplish their goals.

What You Will Do

Write (and co-write) user interface text, help text, instructional and support content and more, primarily for our desktop and mobile apps.
Collaborate with UX design leads to solidify flows and populate wireframes, primarily for our desktop and mobile apps.
Work with many different stakeholders on requirements discovery.
Identify and help define terminology and feature nomenclature.
Work in close collaboration with other writers, designers, and brand marketers to develop and refine the voice of our software.
Skills We’re Stoked About

2-5 years of technical-writing experience, with at least some of it on digital platforms.
Really, really good verbal communication skills: you can articulate the reasoning behind your language decisions and you’re able to solicit the information you need from others to produce the most appropriate content.
Integrating feedback: You can sit in a room workshopping material with a positive attitude, and stand up for your material while diplomatically receiving and synthesizing feedback.
Experience translating technical documentation into user-friendly, goal-oriented, human language
Solid understanding of the nuances between desktop, mobile and web platforms.
A willingness to forgo the Oxford comma (seriously).
