Groupon’s Platform Data Engineering team is looking for a Sr. Staff Engineer to help shape data strategy at Groupon and in turn bring data architecture to the next level of scalability and reliability.

This is the most senior technical role in our data org. The successful candidate will work with the business and engineering leadership to drive data strategy. S/he will be responsible for driving decision making on how we do collection and storage of data, the tools and tech behind transport and transformation as well as presentation and visualisation. Finally this person will play a leading role in how we define data governance processes.

The role involves establishing best practices for design and implementation of the tools for real-time and batch distributed data processing, petabyte scale analysis of web/mobile clickstream as well as structured transactional data.

As a key member of an elite team, your efforts will make direct impact on the experiences of millions of customers and establish Groupon Data platform as a standard of the world-class engineering.

Key responsibilities:

Define the roadmap and lead Groupon’s Data Platform migration to the cloud infrastructure

Drive Data Platform geo-redundancy to the completion

Provide guidance and lead implementation of Data Compliance standards (GDPR, SOX, PII)

Help bring our end-to-end data pipelines to the next level of scalability and reliability

Make company-wide decisions on using open-source technologies for our large-scale data infrastructure

Establish best practices for Data Engineering and share knowledge/experience across the company
