Based on research by Stanford CS Professor Dr. Kunle Olukotun, Afara WebSystems was an application server vendor that built the world’s first 8 core, 8 thread per core processor. Afara was acquired by SUN Microsystems. The Afara technology is the foundation of the Niagra and Victoria Falls line of processors, and is the core technology inside the Oracle Exadata franchise.
