About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

Toast is looking for a Principal Staff Electrical Engineer to develop revolutionary hardware that directly impacts the Fintech & Point of Sales Industry. You will be:

  • Developing and reviewing the creation and evolution of the electrical design process.
  • Effectively communicating and motivating across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.
  • Provide direction to PCB design engineers on the proper layout and routing for Performance and EMI.
  • Providing direction to Engineering Technicians, Junior, and Senior engineers and on occasion direct support of PCBA assembly, rework, and changes using soldering irons, heat guns, hot plates, etc
  • Support regulatory compliance testing
  • Designing  multilayer PCBs that include the following functions, High-speed communication supporting up to 10Gbps speeds, Power management including budgeting, analysis and characterization as it relates to current draw and thermal characteristics, Use of and selection of test equipment—oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, meters, supplies, etc
  • Champion technology investigations including system requirements, architecture definitions, and reusability strategies.
  • Complete PCBA level design including BOM management, revision control, configuration management, hardware bring-up/debug, and issue tracking.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • At least fifteen years of Electrical Engineering experience in high complexity multi-layer PCB designs
  • Multiple years of experience in battery or charging system design or related work experience
  • Subject Matter Expert in all levels of program complexity for technical design reviews
  • Capable of project management engineering lead on cross-functional programs with emphasis on Electrical Engineering deliverables Embedded (MCU) experience – could be substituted by Arduino or similar
  • Complete PCBA level design including BOM management, revision control, configuration management, hardware bring-up/debug, and issue tracking.
  • Design of multilayer PCBs that include the following functions: 
    • High-speed communication supporting up to 10 Gbps speeds, 
    • Wireless modules or discrete design for 802.11 b/g/n/ac, BTLE, RFID/NFC, and LTE 
    • Microcontroller/Microprocessor circuits
    • Power management including budgeting, analysis and characterization as it relates to current draw and thermal characteristics 
    • Serial/Peripheral interfaces
  • Product verification/testing including final analysis and development of tests, reports, and programming scripts.
  • Mentor interns, Junior and Senior level engineers.
  • Provide direction to PCB design engineers on the proper layout and routing for Performance and EMI.
  • Support all level complexity programs including multiple programs concurrently.
