Toast is looking for a highly motivated and passionate Indirect Tax Associate to join its Tax function. This role will be part of the Global Tax Team and will support all indirect tax compliance, reporting, audits and special ad-hoc projects. The position will be based in Chennai or Bangalore, India and report directly to the International Tax Manager located in Dublin, Ireland. This position can avail of a hybrid working environment.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Ensure timely and accurate indirect tax compliance: This includes VAT, GST, HST, PST and SUT. Collaborate with our external compliance provider to maintain complete and accurate data, extract data reports from Vertex, NetSuite and ZIP to prepare and reconcile return workpapers, review detailed workpapers and seek manager approval prior to submission.
  • Assist with Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit program: Work closely with the International Tax Manager in collating and preparing the R&D tax credit calculation in Ireland. Actively engage with R&D engineers in Ireland to assist in the preparation of the annual report.
  • Prepare indirect tax Reconciliations: Responsible for extracting sales and purchase reports for inclusion in periodic indirect tax reconciliations. Assist in preparation of quarterly accruals and reconciliations for SOX control purposes.
  • Manage indirect tax processes:  Take responsibility for documenting all indirect tax processes and policies. Proactively monitor and update the indirect tax filing calendar. Assist with responding to notices and information requests from taxing authorities. Support with indirect tax audits as required. 
  • Provide indirect tax expertise: Conduct detailed indirect tax research and analysis related to Toast's products and services (both new and old)  in current and future global markets, documenting findings and staying informed about current and potential tax laws and guidance.
  • Drive indirect tax process improvements: Proactively identify weaknesses in current processes and procedures relating to indirect tax matters and identify solutions including automation so that issues are resolved in a timely manner. Support the tax technology roadmap, assisting with implementation, testing, tax engine configuration, and reporting requirements.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Accounting, Finance, Product, Legal, Systems, and Operations to ensure tax compliance and support business objectives.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Available to work 2pm-11pm IST in order to collaborate with Tax Team (both in Ireland and USA)
  • 3+ years of relevant international indirect tax experience in Big 4, law firms (supporting international clients) and/or technology industry.
  • University degree, with advanced degree or professional qualification in tax, law or accounting preferred
  • Strong tax research skills using databases like RIA Checkpoint and CCH
  • Experience with data analysis and automation tools (Alteryx, Power BI, or similar)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and establish ongoing relationships
  • Ability to effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally within the business
  • Fluent English 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
