Reporting to the Director of Global Benefits, the Senior Global Mobility and Immigration Manager will support the Global Mobility team in creating a best in class experience for Toast employees. This role is a hybrid role, with a strong preference for candidates who are able to commute to our Boston office.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Lead Toast’s global mobility and immigration program to create a desirable employee experience that meets the needs of the business. This includes policy development, compliance, and working collaboratively with all stakeholders (Toast leadership, HR, Benefits, Legal, Tax, and Immigration).
  • Utilize a strong working knowledge of industry leading global mobility policies and procedures to help inform global strategy and programs, and advise on immigration impact throughout the employee lifecycle, including hiring, promotion, job changes, and/or termination.
  • Suggest and implement policy enhancements and recommend mobility strategy to business and HR leaders.
  • Develop analytics to understand program trends; track cases and case metrics.
  • Make recommendations and improvements based on feedback from Toasters on assignment, effective cost management and best practices.
  • Facilitate the intake process for relocations and international assignments, including assessing the needs of any prospective assignee and preparing their assignment package complete with comprehensive relocation benefits. 
  • Partner with and influence internal teams to ensure that Toasters on assignment receive holistic support throughout the assignment period. Work cross functionally to facilitate assignment implementation aligned with Toast’s global mobility policy and approach.
  • Provide consultative support for Toasters who are preparing for and/or are on assignment, educating them on the processes, policies and advising on issues.
  • Lead Toaster facing and stakeholder communications regarding updates on global mobility status throughout the assignment and if applicable, repatriation period. 
  • Oversee year-end tax management process and work closely with Toast’s payroll and equity teams and external vendors to support assignee, equity, and payroll tax questions at the end of each tax year.
  • Track global mobility employee data within Workday to ensure accurate information management.
  • Consult on global expansion initiatives in new markets where existing Toasters may relocate to help establish a new market as founding members; provide guidance on all aspects of mobility as well as immigration support.
  • Manage external vendor partnerships to provide destination services, immigration, and tax advice. Provide necessary information to vendors to advise on applicable immigration and taxation law,  facilitate relocations, support reporting, and engage with Toasters. 
  • Manage billing for vendor partnerships including the creation of cost projections and purchase orders with Toast’s finance team. 
  • Support broad based visa program management including active management of Toasters on a sponsored work permit, U.S. H-1B cap cycle management, and partnership with TA to understand visa needs for candidates.
  • Provide guidance on right to work compliance, including Form I-9, requirements in all countries where Toast is located.
  • Provide leadership to the global mobility and immigration team, identifying priorities, raising escalated issues, and managing one direct report focused on immigration.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of mobility management experience in a fast-paced environment, inclusive of expatriate tax, global immigration, and/or global payroll experience.
  • Understanding of relevant global immigration, balance sheets, assignment services, compensation, benefits, equity and payroll aspects of an assignment with the ability to provide directional guidance to assignees or business partners. 
  • Deep understanding of expat taxation including, but not limited to, understanding and communicating the differences of cash and equity taxation by country, understanding the corporate tax ramifications, and working with Toast’s corporate tax team and payroll to ensure tax compliance in both home and host countries.
  • Understanding of global assignment financial management, including an understanding of payroll, cost projection and assignee transfer processes.
  • Ability to assess the needs of an employee before relocation, determining whether their deployment is legally feasible, consistent with internal practices, and in compliance with established policies. 
  • Strong technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to leverage technology tools to create efficiency, improve processes and client experience. 
  • Experience in reporting, data analysis, and Excel including creating pivot reports, VLOOKUPS, and charts/graphs partnered with analytical and problem solving experience.
  • Experience reviewing company policies and practices to determine appropriate action.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
Pay Range
$135,000—$216,000 USD
