Swift Navigation is hiring. We’re the market leader in automotive precision GNSS and have been awarded programs for a total of more than 10 million ADAS-enabled and autonomous vehicles worldwide across 20+ automotive OEMs & suppliers as well as multiple mobile handset OEMs. 

 

Our flagship service is Skylark, a 24/7 GNSS corrections service that allows for centimeter-level navigation – safely. Skylark consists of a global GNSS station network, redundant data center architecture, and state of the art monitoring algorithms to ensure 99.9% guaranteed availability and fewer than 1 failure per 1,142 years of driving. To give you a sense of our scale, we process 1.4 billion satellite signals per hour.

 

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead the team that develops the algorithms behind the Skylark service. The Skylark Corrections Team is composed of smart and thoughtful engineers of a variety of skill sets, from precise GNSS algorithms to applied math to real-time software systems.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers focused on designing, developing, and delivering precise GNSS corrections world-wide, in real-time.
  • Work closely with the Product and Program teams to define, own, and deliver the team’s roadmap.
  • Focus on consistent delivery of high quality services that move the company towards achieving short and long term objectives
  • Encourage teamwork and unity at Swift, promoting open discussions and efficient conflict resolution. Support a work culture that appreciates cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together.
  • Own 24/7 operation of the Skylark Algorithm Engine and apply best practices to improving uptime and reliability.
  • Develop good time estimates and scoping for work products; Track and manage resources efficiently and effectively; Proactively forecast and plan for future resource needs and team balance
  • Provide oversight and direction to employees to align work with functional / company  strategy and algorithm and software development best practices.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff on a daily basis, including overseeing new hire onboarding, regular feedback, career development and opportunities
  • Develop, communicate and execute on a vision for the team
  • Drive engineering quality through “just enough” process and automation
  • Maintain a healthy team culture through 1:1 meetings, and other forms of communication and feedback.
  • Clearly clarify ownership and decision making in the team

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Astronomy or similar.
    • 3-5 years of experience leading a team of 5+ software engineers
    • Deep experience in one or more of the following: precise GNSS positioning, GNSS corrections, estimation theory, applied math, and/or other positioning algorithms.
    • Excellent problem solving capabilities and judgment with a detailed but flexible approach. Ability to make sound, scalable, decisions and create clear processes
    • Lead and drive progress through increased uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Experience with people management, taking a people first approach, through hiring and enabling internally; Commitment to people development, engagement, and being a champion for our culture and Swift values 
  • Proven technical leadership across teams. 
  • High emotional intelligence and empathy. Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching.
  • Outstanding communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Desire to learn new things constantly.

 

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience operating real-time sensor networks such as GNSS, weather, ground stations, etc.
  • Experience with GNSS corrections services.
  • Experience with software development for regulated industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices), including familiarity with relevant standards and certifications.
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automated testing frameworks specific to large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience with operating and managing enterprise grade cloud services.
  • Proficiency with C++ and Python. 
  • Experience with spatial modeling, gaussian processes, and machine learning.
  • Experience in test and validation of complex systems

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000 – $220,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
