The Director of Supplier Quality is responsible for leading a team of quality engineers focused on the launch of new Point of Sales systems for Toast. You will be responsible for driving quality closure of critical issues across suppliers and manufacturing partners across Toast’s supply base in Asia. Additionally, you will be involved in the NPI process of ensuring timely closure of major quality design issues before Mass Production and across development builds. You will need to have a working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, TS-16949, and VDA 6.3.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership
- Build a high performing team of Supplier Quality and Launch Engineers
- Develop OKRs and quality roadmaps for major suppliers
- Build a collaborative network across quality, mfg., and engineering
- Inform senior leadership of trends, actions, and major quality issues
- Audit
- Audit & assess CMs production line and quality system readiness for production.
- Audit peripheral suppliers & vendors to determine conformance to VDA 6.3
- Root causing and failure analysis
- Lead all communication on root cause and supplier corrective actions
- Quality control
- Perform on-site quality inspections, audits, and maintain control plans to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes.
- Identify areas for quality control improvement and implement new methods accordingly.
- Support new supplier selection process with audits as required
- Supplier development
- Work with supplier leadership in developing supplier capabilities enabling better launches and improved quality performance
- Coordinate calibration activities, working with outside vendors to ensure that all test and measurement equipment is calibrated prior to use on the manufacturing floor.
- Work with outside and supplier quality labs ensuring product is in conformance before leaving manufacturing sites
- Risk management
- Identify potential risks related to the supply chain, monitor supplier performance, and take preventive measures to mitigate risks.
- Supplier evaluation and selection
- Assist in evaluating and selecting new suppliers based on their capabilities, quality systems, and performance history.
- NPI
- Work with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams in identification of failure modes and countermeasure management
- Monitoring design performance and knowledge gaps of NPI designs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Material Science or equivalent
- 15+ years experience in quality leadership across manufacturing and NPI product launch
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Master Degree in Operations Management, Business, or Engineering
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Equivalent
- Six Sigma Master Black Belt or Black Belt with working level knowledge of Lean
- Strong knowledge of Problem Solving, Root Cause Analysis, and CAPA/SCARs
- Good knowledge of PCBA process, board level testing, quality verification, & root cause
- Working level understanding of tooling, fixtures, and injection molded components
- Familiar with FATP, including lamination, system assembly, function testing & packaging
- Experience in Consumer Satisfaction, APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, Stack up tolerance, SPC, Global 8D, 5Y, 5S, Project management, budgeting, MRP, Supplier Quality and Supplier relations, transit testing, product life testing, new product introduction (NPI), and manufacturing operations, team building and coaching
- Business travel in southern Asia is required
- Excellent team player, ability to take initiative, and result and detail oriented.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Flexible, improvised, and practical way of approaching problems
- Strong working knowledge of the Quality Systems
- High Volume fast-paced production manufacturing experience
- ISO 9001: 2015 certification
- TS16949 working knowledge of documents flows and controls
- IPC 610 certificated is a plus
- Ability to speak and write in multiple languages – English, Mandarin, Taiwanese
