Job Description / Skills Required

Responsibilities:

  • Characterization of subcomponents of optical transmitters, optical receivers used in parallel opto-electronic interfaces (Light emitting diodes (LEDs) and Photodetectors (PDs))
  • Work with the epitaxial development group to characterize the bandgap structure of LEDs, modulation speed, efficiency using various methods (spectroscopy, S21 measurement, SIMS, FIB, SEM, etc..)
  • Test photo detectors and extract the relevant parameters and provide feedback for the PD developers.
  • Maintain and improve opto-electronic test systems for full characterization of optical sub-components and modules.
  • Run link DOEs for sub-component development.

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering or physics with 2+ years of experience
  • Understanding of solid-state physics and physical principles behind LEDs PDs design and critical parameters of the transceiver system design based on LEDs and PDs.
  • Experience with LED/PD characterization
  • Understanding of Optics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Being able to execute DOEs, targeted to improve the performance of sub-components. Provide clear/ concise data summary and conclusions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of high-speed test instruments such as VNAs, sampling and real time oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers, optical spectrometers
  • Hands-on lab experience especially with probed/free space coupled (using stages) optical systems
