The ‘Internet of Things,’ or the practice of connecting machines, appliances, devices and even the electric grid, has yielded a lot of benefits. Homes and businesses are ‘smarter,’ insight is gained into operations and efficiency, breakdowns are prevented, and weak spots are identified before they fail. Gartner has estimated that there will be over 20 billion connected devices in the world by next year. But there is a dark side to IoT: the more connections points there are, the more businesses and homes are exposed to dark operators on the Internet.
